PIAA NW Class AAA Regional Wrestling
ALTOONA – The PIAA AAA Northwest Regional will be held at Altoona High School on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday March 1.
Central Mountain will advance ten wrestlers to the NW Regional including: Geo Barzona, 106; Keanan Bottorf, 120; Emery Watson, 138; Demetri Probst, 145; Chad Reese, 160; Gavin Caprio, 170; Isaac Porter, 182; Loc Long, 195; Cameron Porter, 220 and Bryce Hanley, 285. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance the the PIAA State Championships to be held at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. March 6-8.
Schedule for the event will begin Friday with Round I at 5 p.m., Round II at 7:15 p.m. and Consolation Round I at 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday wrestling will begin with Consolation Round II at 10 a.m., Semi-Finals and Consolation Round III at 12:30 p.m. Consolation Round IV will begin at 3 p.m. followed by the Consolation Finals at 6 p.m. The Parade of Champions and Championship finals will begin at 7 p.m.
Central Mountain will see several familiar opponents in the first round of regionals with several match ups from traditional opponents including Shikellamy, Jersey Shore and DuBois on the brackets.
In the first round of NW Regionals, Geo Barzona (20-13) will face Jaread Prude (13-4) of Alderdice. Keanan Bottorf (24-8) is paired with Kody Cox (23-9) of DuBois to start the tournament. Emery Watson (18-15) will challenge Tristan Paul (24-4) of Shikellamy. Demetri Probst (24-9) will take on Jared Brown (10-11) of Shikellamy. Chad Reese (31-6) will first see Joe Campanella (8-6) of McDowell.
Gavin Caprio (32-5) will have a bye in the first round and will face the winner of Max Mason (17-15) of Jersey Shore vs. Chris Starocci (20-7) of Strong Vincent in the second round. Isaac Porter (16-12) will first see action against Dominic Loffredo (26-6) of Jersey Shore. Loc Long (19-7) opens up with Austin Lewis (26-2) of Selinsgrove. Cameron Porter (23-9) will begin the tournament with Alex Streich (19-8) of Warren. Bryce Hanley (24-9) will see his first action against Jeremy Bacon (10-18) of Shikellamy.
