Renovo Borough Police Protection Ending
by John Lipez
RENOVO – Police protection for Renovo borough and the rest of western Clinton County will be in the hands of state police as of Thursday.
Renovo Mayor Carl Olshefskie told The Record Tuesday he is unaware of any movement to replace two borough officers who submitted their resignations effective Thursday.
The mayor said he has had no contact from borough council’s police committee and unless something unanticipated happens at council’s regular meeting session which was scheduled for Wednesday night of this week, for the first time in memory there will be no police officers on the borough payroll.
Renovo borough’s two most recent officers, Cpl. Thomas Kibbey and Cpl. Chris Wolfe, resigned effective tomorrow, blaming policy changes put into effect by the newly elected mayor.
Olshefskie noted he has contacted state police at the Lamar barracks and officers there are aware of the Renovo situation; he pointed out many communities in the state rely on state police patrols to provide protection.
Olshefskie said two part-time officers had been furloughed at the start of the new year but he is not aware of any movement to bring them back at this point.
