William J. Dwyer of 1708 E. Moyamensing Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. died Friday January 31, 2014 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.

He was born August 15, 1944 in Renovo. He was the 5th son of the late Dr. John and Elizabeth (Russell) Dwyer. He was always known to his friends as Wimpy.

He graduated from St. Joseph High School, Renovo in 1962. He then attended Williamsport Tech (now Pennsylvania College of Technology) and in 1964 graduated with a degree in accounting. He next served in the US Army, stationed at Fort Knox, KY.

Bill then worked in the accounting field in Philadelphia, and in March 1969 began employment with Oppenheimer who he worked for until his retirement in December 2013 as a Vice President, Internal Auditing.

On October 14, 1978 he married his best friend Karen (Miller) from South Philadelphia. They had been married for 35 years. They were blessed with two children: Shawn (Karen) Dwyer of Chester Springs, Pa. and Colleen (Pete) Dwyer of South Philadelphia. Bill was a devoted husband and father and an avid Notre Dame fan. He attended many ND games with his extended family.

In addition to his wife and children he is survived by three brothers: Jay (Carol) of Ocala, Florida; Luke (Lorraine) of Bensalem, Pennsylvania and Kevin (Rosemary) of Renovo, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his oldest brother Michael in 1991.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church, 1400 Moyamensing Avenue, South Philadelphia and that is where, on February 4, 2014 his Funeral Mass was celebrated. His final commitment service will be at the convenience of his family.
