Marsteller Tweets He’s Coming to LHU
LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven University wrestling program just picked up its second 4-time PIAA champion for next season.
Multiple sources are reporting that Chance Marsteller, a four-time state champ, undefeated in high school, will be transferring to Lock Haven for the upcoming season. Those sources include PAPowerwrestling.com which said Marsteller announced his switch in a tweet this evening:
“proud to say im a new bald eagle and will be wrestling for coach moore at lock haven university this year”
Marsteller, from District 3’s Kennard-Dale High School, spent two years at Oklahoma State where he redshirted as a true freshman before making his debut this season at Grapple On The Gridiron against Iowa. He will join fellow four-time PA state champ Thomas Haines who transferred to the Bald Eagles from Ohio State.
Local wrestling followers had been aware that Marsteller was interested in transferring to LHU and he had been awaiting a release from Oklahoma State coach John Smith. PAPowerwrestling reported tonight that Marsteller has received that release and would become immediately eligible for the Bald Eagles with three years of eligibility remaining.
By joining Haines (from District 3’s Solanco High School), it will be the second time in collegiate wrestling history that two four-time PIAA champions will be in the same program. 4-time PIAA State Champions John Hughes (Benton Area) and Cary Kolat (Jefferson Morgan) were teammates at Penn State during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Kolat later transferred to Lock Haven where he was a 2-time NCAA champion.
The last time Marsteller officially competed in college was on December 18, 2015 in a dual meet when Oklahoma State faced Wyoming.
