LHU and UC Tied 0-0 After 9 Innings
Game Will Resume this Morning
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University softball team and host Charleston are locked up in a marathon pitcher’s duel that will pick up today at 10 a.m. in the top of the 10th inning with both teams still scoreless.
The game was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, but was moved to a 7:30 p.m. start because of the steady rain in the area for the much of the afternoon and evening.
After starting at 7:30 p.m., Lock Haven and Charleston got through five innings before the rain struck again and forced another hour and 45-minute rain delay.
Once LHU and UC hit the field again, the tight battle continued and the two teams headed for extra innings despite off and on rain throughout.
The two teams headed to the top of the 10th still scoreless – the clocked pushed midnight – rain continued to fall heavily – forcing the umpires and tournament officials to suspend the game.
LHU and UC will get things going again on Friday at 10 a.m.
Game Notes to this point –
The two teams have combined for just six hits, three each … LHU pitcher Bekah Slattery has been sensational … She has 11 strikeouts, which matches her career-high … Charleston starting pitcher Alli Burdette went 8 and 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts … Both LHU and UC had the bases loaded in the ninth, but neither could plate a run.
