CM Outlasts Shamokin 8-7
COAL TOWNSHIP – CM traveled to Shamokin for a league game. It wasn’t all pretty, but the bottom line was a “W” for the Cats’ who moved to 8-0 on the season.
It was stressed before the game, that league games on another team’s turf, can be difficult for a variety of reasons. Boy was that true! CM jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 3-innings, but the Cats’ squandered an opportunity for more runs with a base running mistake. In the bottom of the 4th, an outfield error to start the inning got Shamokin rolling, and when the dust cleared they held a 5-3 lead. CM responded in the top of the 5th inning with a Josie Dershem HR to cut the lead to 5-4. In the bottom half of the inning, another CM error led to another run, and 6-4 Shamokin lead. Central Mountain did what they have done all year, they responded with 3 runs in the 6th to grab a 7-6 lead. CM again stepped up in the top of the 7th and added an insurance run when Skylar Smith doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Madi Brown single. Kiara Bonshock homered for Shamokin in the bottom of the 7th to make it 8-7, but Emily Strouse slammed the door for the save.
Cait Brush got the win, giving up 6 runs, but only 1 of those runs was earned. She struck out two and walked none. Central Mountain is home Tuesday vs. Shikellamy.
