County Gas Service Firms Expanding

LOCK HAVEN—Clinton County’s two major natural gas service companies are continuing to grow.

That was the report from Mike Flanagan, head of the Clinton County Economic Partnership at the Tuesday meeting of the county’s natural gas task force committee.

Word was relayed from Flanagan, who was unable to attend, that two Lamar Township employers have positive reports on their employment situation:

Trican Well Services told Flanagan the company has 240 employees operating out of its Lamar Township facility as of mid-January; that’s an increase of about 100 over a year ago.

Tanner Tyliszczak, Trican district manager, reported that 2014 is expected to be a very good year, well above 2013 activity.

He told Flanagan the winter weather has some impact on the year’s activities, but 2014 looked strong even before the recent cold snap and the increase in natural gas prices.

Trican has been a regional player in gas field operations since 2010.

Phil Urlacher, district manager for Partnership business park tenant Baker Hughes, told Flanagan his firm had 180 employees as of mid-January and plans to hire about 20 more, including CDL drivers; the company is also looking for employees with a military background.

He said the 180 employment level has been steady for the last six months.

Baker Hughes has been operating locally since late 2012, Trican opening local operations in 2010.

Trican presently has one fracking crew in the Northern Tier and two others at well sites in Lycoming County, one for Anadarko and another for Seneca.

Baker Hughes has two fracking crews in the Tunkhannock area and cementing crews busy from the Northern Tier to Westmoreland County.
