Robert S. Kunes, 81, of 307 Cedar Lane, Mill Hall, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Haven Skilled Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Born in Bellefonte on March 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Sterl W. Kunes and Jenny L. Krebs Rayson.

On May 14, 1953 in Nebraska he married the former Lyla F. Amyx who survives.

Robert was in the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant in October 1968.

Robert was a Life Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Disabled American Veterans, and Blinded Veterans Association. He was also a past member of the VFW, American Legion, 40 & 8, and the Lock Haven Moose.

Robert was an avid bowler.

In addition to his wife, Lyla, he is survived by two daughters: Glenda Bowles of South Carolina and Roberta (Dennis) Shawley of Mill Hall; a daughter-in-law, Janice Kunes of Mackeyville; six grandchildren: Billy and Ian Bowles, Joe (Bailey) Shawley, David (Gina) Shawley, and Ryan and Katelyn Kunes; and two great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his son and best friend, Robert S. Kunes, Jr.; a sister, Nancy Haines; and a grandson, Clinton Bowles.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
