Lady Wildcats Edge Williamsport 4-3
WILLIAMSPORT — The Central Mountain softball team is off and running in the new season. The Lady Wildcats (3-0) racked up their third win of the week, edging a tough Williamsport squad 4-3.
The road win was a close back-and-forth contest until the very end. CM took advantage of a shallow single and some aggressive base running by Averie Pringle in the top of the 7th to get a runner in scoring position. The Cats’ then took the lead on a two-out single by Autumn Young.
Offensively, the Lady Wildcats got big days at the plate from Madison Brown, 3 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Pringle showed off her speed going 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Young came up clutch twice for CM, driving in two in the third inning and the game winner in the top of the 7th inning, as she went 2 for 4 overall on the day. Emily Strouse knocked in the other CM run with an RBI-single in the fourth.
Josie Dershem gutted through the first 4 1/3 frames, scattering seven hits and 3 runs. Dershem didn’t appear to have her best stuff, but she overcame a couple of jams and kept the Cats’ in it. Emily Strouse came on in relief in the 5th to finish things out and eventually earned the win.
The Lady Wildcats are next up next Tuesday, scheduled to host Mifflinburg at 4:30 p.m.
