Sunday Night Fire Badly Damages Lock Haven Structure

LOCK HAVEN — Dozens and dozens of firefighters from around the Lock Haven area were pressed into duty Sunday night for a serious fire at a two-and-a-half story duplex on E. Church St. in the city.

The alarm was sounded sometime before 10 p.m. and firemen found flames burning through the roof of the frame building located across from the old Clinton County Jail in the 300 block of E. Church St.

There were no reports of any injuries. A fire official told therecord-online the flames were first observed coming from the building’s second floor. All occupants were reported to have safely escaped. Additional information was not immediately available as firemen were still in service late Sunday night.

Cause Undetermined

The cause remains undetermined in a Sunday night fire on E. Church St. in Lock Haven.

Lock Haven deputy fire chief Bob Neff told therecord-online today a state police fire marshal was on the scene last night. It was determined the fire broke out on the first floor back porch of the two-and-a-half story frame duplex across from the old Clinton County Jail but no cause has been discovered at this point.

Neff said the former “DelGrippo” family home housed two couples, one upstairs and one downstairs. All escaped safely. He said much of the building was a total loss.

Some 60 firefighters from Lock Haven area companies responded to the alarm while two additional companies provided backup. The alarm was sounded sometime before 10 p.m. and firefighters arriving on scene found flames burning through the roof of the frame building.
