Wildcats Take 10-0 Mark to D-6 Duals

P-O First, then Winner of Red Raiders vs Huskies

cm-wrestlingBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — The District 6 team duals, the first phase of wrestling’s second season, begins this Saturday for the Central Mountain wrestling team and the top-seeded Wildcats will have to be on top of their game if they want to displace defending champion Mifflin County.

First off Central Mountain (10-0) has to get by #4 seed Philipsburg-Osceola (8-7) in a 10 a.m. semifinal at the Tyrone High School gym; the Wildcats will be favored in that one, the Mounties pummeled Tuesday night by Clearfield by a 51-23 score.

Waiting for the CM-PO winner will be the winner of the other semifinal pairing #2 seed Mifflin County (14-4) and #3 seed Bellefonte (11-6).

If the seeds are correct it will be Central Mountain and Mifflin County meeting once again for the district crown, the Huskies edging the Wildcats by one point a year ago after CM took a 1-pointer in 2014. Central Mountain already owns a regular season win, 37-32 over Mifflin County this year. That was a December match and the Huskies were without starters Noah Myers and Trey Hartsock; Myers was a regional third place finisher a year ago and Hartsock a regional champ.

Both teams are expected to be at full strength Saturday and if they meet in the finals the flip of the coin and lineup juggling will likely be part of the story line. The team dual champ will move onto the PIAA team dual championships in Hershey Feb. 11-13.

Last time out coach Biff Walizer’s team gave every indication it is ready for Saturday’s dual championships; the Wildcats tuned up with a 54-14 dismantling of Selinsgrove Tuesday night.
