Wildcats Likely Top Seed for D6 Duals Feb. 6

cm-wrestlingTYRONE — PIAA District 6 wrestling officials have released details on the approaching District 6 AAA team dual tournament. The tourney semifinals and final will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Tyrone High School gym, the AAA semifinal round scheduled for 10 a.m., the championship bout to follow.

The most recent district rankings, as of last Friday, show Central Mountain High School the top seed, a position the Wildcats are unlikely to lose as they have just one more dual, Tuesday at home with Shikellamy, before this Wednesday’s cutoff date for seeding purposes.

The most recent rankings (through Friday, Jan. 22):

1 – Central Mountain (6-0) 151.67

2 – Mifflin County (13-4) 118.82

3 – Bellefonte (10-5) 95.71

4 – Philipsburg-Osceola (8-6) 82.86

5 – State College (7-10) 54.71

6 – Altoona (4-6) 53

7 – Bald Eagle Area (3-9) 30

8 – Hollidaysburg (1-14) 12.22

Participating teams are to be notified this Friday of the tournament bracket. If the most recent seeds hold, Central Mountain would wrestle in the Feb. 6 semifinals, meeting   the winner of a quarterfinal match early next week between No. 4 Bellefonte and No. 5 Philipsburg-Osceola.

The district dual winner will advance to the PIAA state dual tournament starting Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Giant Center in Hershey. Mifflin County is the defending district champion, edging the Wildcats by a point a year ago. Central Mountain won its regular season meeting with the Huskies this year by a 37-32 score in December.
