Athletic Board Officially Opens All Football Coaching Positions

cm-footballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP—Central Mountain football coach Mike Nines won’t be back for a third year at the helm of the Wildcats.

Therecord-online has learned that the Keystone Central School District has sent certified letters to members of the 2015 coaching staff telling them that all coaching positions are open for the 2016 season. This means in effect that Nines is done after two years as head coach, a stretch which saw the Wildcats get increased player participation but few wins. Central Mountain was 1-9 in Nines first year and 2-8 this past season, the worst two years in the program history in terms of wins and losses.

Therecord-online learned the decision to open the coaching slots came following a recent meeting of the school board athletic committee and district officials. That information was confirmed this evening through a board statement released by district superintendent, Kelly Hastings: “In order for the Central Mountain High School Football Program to move forward, the Keystone Central School Board, with the recommendation of the Board Athletic Committee and the administration, will be opening all football coaching positions.”

Nines was asked if he wanted to comment but so far has not been heard from.

Reports had surfaced in early November that Nine’s position was in jeopardy and therecord-online reported that he had resigned from his post but based on support from team members withdrew the resignation, putting his status back in the hands of the district which retains the right to renew coaching positions on an annual basis.

Nines’ departure follows a showing of public support from team members at the Keystone Central school board December meeting earlier this month. Four members spoke in his support and a number more players and parents were in attendance in support.
