cm-wrestlingWINGATE — It almost turned out to be a “trap” match, Central Mountain’s trip to winless Bald Eagle Area Tuesday night.

The Eagles came in 0-3 and struggling but a strong performance from their lower middleweights propelled the home team to a 22-21 lead with six bouts to go. However Central Mountain would take five of those final six to come home a 48-28 winner and finish December dual meet action at 2-0.

But even down the stretch it got close. The Eagles were trailing 36-22 with four weights remaining and at 170 pounds (the match started at 220 pounds) previously winless Brock Hockenberry was trailing Central Mountain’s Andrew Petruzzi by an 8-4 score heading into the third period. Hockenberry brought the home crowd to its feet when he reversed and pinned Petruzzi 32 seconds into the final period, putting the score at 36-28 with two bouts to go.

And winless Eagle freshman Dylan Bisel carried a 4-2 lead into the final period in the next-to-last bout against the Wildcats’ Greg Stahl. But Stahl, on top to start the final two minutes, quickly hooked up a cradle and got the fall in 0:24 to wrap things up for the Wildcats who got their final six points when Isaac Porter was awarded a forfeit; final score Central Mountain 48, BEA 28.

The Wildcats took 9 of the 14 bouts and picked up five falls and two forfeits but surrendered four pins themselves. Takedowns were 16-11 Central Mountain.

Other Wildcat winners included Dalton Bechdel a decision at 106, Cody Coleman a forfeit at 113, Geo Barzona a fall at 120, Colton Weaver a fall at 145, Tanner Weaver a fall at 152, Brandon Miller a decision at 160 and Hunter Weaver a fall at 220.

The Wildcats’ next action will be the Conestoga Valley Holiday Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday at Lancaster, both a jayvee and varsity event with some 24 teams participating. Central Mountain’s first dual meet of the new year will be Thursday, Jan. 7 at Midd-West.
