Wildcats Advance 6 to Semis

CM has Good Showing in Early Rounds of Tom Best-Top Hat Tourney

WILLIAMSPORT —T he Central Mountain wrestling team brought 13 wrestlers to the season opening Tom Best Memorial Top Hat Wrestling Tournament and after the first day of competition all 13 are still alive in the two day event.

Six Wildcats have moved into the Saturday morning semifinals, the first four all juniors. They are top seed Geo Barzona who had a first round bye and a quarterfinal 20-3 technical fall at 113 pounds; Colton Weaver with two major decisions at 145 pounds; Brandon Miller with two decisions at 160 and Caleb Turner with two first period pins at 170 pounds.

Two seniors advanced with a first round bye and quarterfinal first period pins: Isaac Porter at 195 pounds and Hunter Weaver at 220.

Seven other Wildcats went 1-1 on day one and will be in Saturday morning consolations: freshman Cody Coleman at 106 pounds; sophomore Seth Andrus at 126; sophomore Logan Long at 132; sophomore Asher Corl at 138; sophomore Tanner Weaver at 152; junior Brian Andrus at 182 and senior heavyweight Bryce Bitner. Central Mountain had no entry at 120 pounds.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m., the championship semifinals at 10:30 a.m. The championship, third and fifth place bouts are to be wrestled at each weight beginning at 4:15 p.m.

In the team standings, Central Mountain is solidly in second place with 69.5 points closely behind Jersey Shore in first with 86 points.

Saturday’s wrestling will be aired on AM1230 WBPZ and therecord-online.
