LOCK HAVEN – “Phase One” of the city’s Water Street beautification program is nearing completion.

Employees from Wolyniec Construction of Williamsport this week are putting the finishing touches on the E. Water Street section from Vesper to Grove Streets. Brickwork has been completed and new trees planted. The trees are of the Silver Linden and American Hornbeam variety, smaller in scale than some of those replaced as part of the project.

A Wolyniec crew member said the contractor has to “pull the wires” so new street lights can be activated. City crews will have to restore parking meter heads.

Meanwhile HRI Inc is well underway with “Phase Two,” a similar rebuild of the sidewalks and curbing on the Water Street block from Grove to Jay Streets.

These projects are the final of some 15 downtown blocks to have received the upgrades. The city last year had applied for state transportation funds to do two East Church Street blocks but was turned down.

Traffic has been limited to westbound only on the two Water Street blocks during workdays.
