Keystone Battles South Columbia-Rain Delays in 8-2 Loss

key-base-logoWELLSBORO – It took nearly six hours for Sunday’s Section 3 game to be completed, resulting in a 8-2 loss for the Keystone 10-11 All-Stars.

South Columbia, the loser’s bracket champ, arrived at the game relaxed and ready to play. Play they did. South Columbia came out swinging and seemed unswayed by the multiple delays for lightning and rain, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning and were never threatened thereafter.

Keystone, likewise seemed undeterred by the multiple delays, though they never found their stride. With a bit of a slump at the plate, Keystone did manage 7 hits on the day … but couldn’t shift the momentum to their favor. While they did put the ball in play often, Keystone couldn’t string enough hits together to influence the scoreboard to their favor.

Kaden Falls led the way for Keystone with three hits (2 doubles, single) while Blade Myers pounded out 2 doubles. Cy Probst had a triple and Nash Welch a single on the day.

On the mound, Falls pitched 5 full innings before hitting his quota for the day earning 8 strikeouts in the process. Brady Bendik relieved Falls for 20 pitches so as to be ready for the next game as needed. Ryan Thompson finished out the game for Keystone on the mound.

The loss forces the “if” game scheduled for Monday, July 27, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. This game is a win-or-go-home situation for Keystone … though it is not a new experience. After a similar loss to Montoursville in the District 12 final, Keystone bounced back in style to decisively win the D12 title.
