Beech Creek Jr. Legion Downs Lehigh at Sectionals
MUHLENBURG — The Beech Creek Junior American Legion team rode the arm and bat of Ethan Watkins to a first round win at the American Legion sectional tournament at Muhlenburg.
Watkins had been the winning pitcher last Wednesday when the Junior Crickets claimed the West Branch Conference postseason crown and he got the ball Saturday in his team’s first sectional game. The right-handed throwing Watkins responded with a gem, a 4-0 whitewash of Lehigh Township.
Watkins went all seven innings, striking out eight, allowing three hits and walking three. He helped his own cause with a homerun.
Catcher Asher Corl added two hits, including a double, the same for Mahlik Houtz. Other hits came from Tanner Lavelle, Brady Eck and Troy Gardner.
Beech Creek will be back in action Sunday at 7 p.m. against Westtown in the 8-team sectional tourney.
