Balanced Effort Earns 11-3 Win for Keystone

key-base-logoWELLSBORO – The Keystone 10-11 All-Stars continued their quest for a Section 3 title by dispatching South Columbia 11-3 in the winner’s bracket final.

It was another workman like team effort as Keystone tallied up 19 hits on offense while allowing only 5 hits on defense. After two scoreless innings, both teams plated three runs each in the third inning for a 3-3 tie at the mid point of the contest.

Then Keystone found their stride, tacking on four more runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth inning and a bonus run in the sixth … all the while shutting out South Columbia for the remainder of the game.

Cy Probst pitched a solid 5 1/3 innings accumulating eight strikeouts in the process. Karen Falls closed out the game for Keystone on the mound to preserve the win earning a strikeout of his own.

Falls was the hits leader for Keystone pounding out four singles on the night. Cy Probst helped his own cause by making a double and two singles. Kelvin Probst matched his big brother’s effort by also hitting a double and two singles. Evan Cross and Ryan Pentz each had a double and a single, while Blade Myers and Aaron Miller both contributed a pair of base hits.

Brady Bendik only has one hit in the game but it was a solo dinger to open the sixth inning.

With the win, Keystone is now set for the Section 3 final slated for Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m. in Wellsboro. A win would seal the championship for Keystone, a loss would mean a return trip on Monday.
