Beech Creek Advances to States 12-8 over Murrysville
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Crickets achieved redemption in the Region 7 championship final besting Murraysville 12-8 for the title and a slot at the state tourney.
Just a year ago, Murrysville eliminated Beech Creek from contention at regionals. The District 31 champs would not prevail in 2015.
After a sluggish start and a pair of errors, Beech Creek found their rhythm in the batter’s box. In all, the Crickets pounded out 16 hits on the day.
Leading the charge was Clayton Butler with a 3-run homer, a double and a single. Talon falls and Trapper Kunes also recorded three hits each. Ethan McGill, Toner Corl and Kenny Heverly each had two hits. Bryce Hanley contributed a single.
The Crickets will now travel to West Lawn, PA, for the state American Legion Senior Division Tournament. Beech Creek will play in the tournament opener on July 28, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. against the champion of Region 2, Berks County/Lehigh Valley area.
