Clinton Advances to Finals in D12 Softball

The District 12 Championship Junior Softball game scheduled for 11 a.m. at Nippenose with Williamsport has been postponed until 2 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015 … we will update this status as information is made available.

clinton-sb-logoMONTGOMERY – Clinton took the next step for a chance at redemption by besting Montoursville in a loser’s bracket 6-4 win over Montoursville.

Clinton opening their scoring in the first inning with a 1-0 lead, then adding on three more runs in the second. Then Clinton finished out their scoring by plating two more runs in the fourth.

Montoursville answered back with a pair of runs in the fourth inning and made a last-ditch effort in the top of the seventh scoring two more for the Lady Warriors.

Clinton worked as a committee on both sides of the ball sharing the wealth.

Offensively, it wasn’t power hitting that won the day … it was three singles by Caitlyn Brush, Josie Dershem and Cassidy Brush, coupled with some savvy base running after reaching first on walks or laying down sacrifice bunts then taking full advantage of Montoursville miscues that proved successful for Clinton.

On defense, Clinton had outstanding production with Skylar Smith and Caitlyn Brush sharing the pitching duties to accumulate four strikeouts while giving up only four hits and two walks on the night.

Clinton also turned two double plays in the game. The first on a line drive back at Caitlyn Brush, who alertly caught a base runner off the bag at first. Then to complete the game, a 1-6-3 double play by Skylar Smith in the circle to Lindsey Johnson at short, then to Caitlin Brush at first to call it a night.

Clinton will now advance to the District 12 final with Williamsport at 11 a.m. at Nippenose Field in Oval, Saturday, July 3, 2015.

If Clinton should win the first game, an “if” game is slated for 2 p.m.
