Clinton Edged 4-0 by Williamsport
Tough Defenisve Struggle Between Solid Teams
OVAL – If the opening round game between Clinton and Williamsport is any indication, the road to a District 12 Little League Junior Softball title is going to be a tough one. Williamsport managed a 4-0 win over Clinton to set the tone.
Two evenly matched teams with solid pitching and stingy defenses faced off Wednesday evening and evenly played game.
Williamsport maged a pair of runs in in the bottom of the second and fourth innings and was enough to seal the 4-0 win for the girls from Billtown.
Alexis Greiss drove a liner all the way to the fence in the bottom of the second inning for a standup double, then Aimee Holtzapple went yard to deep center-right that bounced on the yellow plastic safety cover and out of play to set Williamsport up 2-0 heading into the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Clinton put forward their best threat on the night with Josie Dershem reaching first on a throwing error, then advanced to second on a base hit by Skylar Smith. Then Dershem was trapped in no man’s land and picked off trying to advance to third.
Lynna Robertson went the distance in the circle for Williamsport with four strikeouts and the win.
Caitlyn Brush went four full innings for Clinton striking out one batter and giving up two walks. Skylark Smith came on in relief pitching the final two innings and collecting three K’s and allowing one base on balls.
Williamsport will now face the winner of tonight’s Montoursville vs. Montgomery game on tomorrow 6 p.m. the the Nippenose field.
Clinton will take on the loser of the Montoursville vs. Montgomery game at Staggart field in Montgomery tomorrow at 6 p.m.
