Dolan a Big Hit with Glacier Outlaws

outlawsWHITEFISH, Mont. – Central Mountain High School grad Cody Dolan is living out his dream, playing professional baseball with the Glacier Outlaws in Whitefish, Montana.

Dolan is doing well with the Glaciers, league statistics showing his .433 batting average good for third in the Mount Rainiers Professional Baseball League.

What is not doing so well is the league itself. The independent pro league started its first ever season last month with six teams located across Montana, Oregon and Washington. But league commissioner/owner Mike Greene has run into financial difficulties and the league is looking at consolidating from six to four teams, its future in a state of flux at this point.

Meanwhile Dolan, an outfielder, is off to a great start with the Outlaws. He was 13-for-30 through his first seven games, including one double, a homerun and six RBIs.

Dolan was an all-state first baseman at Central Mountain High School but has had an injury-plagued baseball career since then, including stops at several college programs, most recently Winthrop University last year.

While Dolan has put up solid numbers, the league has struggled, Greene last weekend posting a release saying its future was in doubt. More recently he posted a story saying the league would be consolidating to four teams, utilizing players from the previous six squads. But newspaper articles from league towns indicate the Mount Rainiers League may not survive.

A Dolan family member told The Record there was a Glacier Outlaws team meeting yesterday and officials informed them that the league was having financial issues and they were folding the league.  “They told them they were doing what they could but it did not look good.”

The players were told they would have a definite answer by this Saturday. The family member said right now he is “basically hanging out and working out and waiting to see where he goes next.”

Because of his numbers Dolan is hopeful that if the Rainiers League goes out of business he’ll get a look from another league. The family member said Dolan is not giving up on his dream, he wants to continue to play.
