Words of Grace – May 28, 2015

WordsOfGraceJesus told his followers to be aware of deception. “Take heed that no one deceives you,” he warned them, in Matthew 24:4. Many deceivers shall come in his name, “and shall deceive many” (v.5).

The apostle Paul warned about those who would come preaching “another Jesus,” whom Paul had not preached. Those deceived would preach “another gospel,” but not the true gospel of Christ. (Second Corinthians 11:4).

In his epistle to the Galatians, Paul marveled that they had so quickly turned away from the one who had called them to “the grace of Christ unto another gospel” (1:6). This gospel was not really another gospel, but a perversion of the true “gospel of Christ” (v.7).

Even if a so-called angel from heaven would come preaching “any other gospel,” Paul wrote, “let him be accursed” (v.8). Because there is only one true gospel, any other gospel is a lie.

“I am a Bible Christian,” A.W. Tozer said, “and if an archangel with a wingspread as broad as constellation shining like the sun were to come and shining like the sun were to come and offer me some new truth, I’d ask him for a reference.”

Tozer made the point that if the angel could not show him where it was found in the Bible, he would send away, saying, “I’m awfully sorry, but you don’t bring any references with you.”
