cm-wrestlingWILLIAMSPORT – With only four wrestlers in the championship finals and one champion, Central Mountain still had enough team points garnered to lay claim to the team title. The margin of victory was extremely narrow though. The Wildcats outlasted Top Hat newcomer, South Western by only one-half point. The Wildcats tallied 168.5 points to the Mustangs 168 points.

While the Wildcats may have not finished as strong as they would have liked to, there is much to be pleased with the effort in Billtown. After all, a season opening tournament is used as a barometer to establish a plan for the rest of the season. Now the coaching staff has some real performance data to employ in improving the squad’s future.

In all, the Wildcats had 10 place finishers. Gavin Caprio (170) placed first with Keenan Bottorf (120), Chad Reese (160) and Cameron Porter (220) placing second. Bryce Hanley (285) placed third and Emery Watson (138) finished fourth. Geo Barzona (106) and Hunter Weaver (182) placed sixth. Chase Andrus (126) and Nick Miller (195) both finished seventh.

Central Mountain doesn’t have long to cherish their newest trophy as they host the 34-team King of the Mountain tournament this coming weekend which will also include many of the top teams in the region.
