Fire Erupts on Champlain Avenue in Renovo, Prompting Countywide Emergency Response and Investigation
By Kevin Rauch
RENOVO – A fire believed to have started in the upstairs of 227 Champlain Avenue in Renovo prompted a large emergency response just after 6:00 PM Tuesday evening, with multiple fire departments from across Clinton County joining forces with Renovo-area responders.
227 Champlain, which is one half of a double home shared with 229 Champlain Avenue, was recently purchased and is currently under renovation. A mother and her infant child had been living there, but both are safe.
The home is located along Route 120, just west of the former Yesterday’s building. Construction materials could be seen on the porch as crews battled the blaze. Emergency responders initially were unsure about the occupancy status of either side of the double home.
Firefighters fought the blaze from both the interior and exterior, later joined by ladder trucks from Lock Haven and Avis among dozens of emergency vehicles that responded.
Just inches separate 227 Champlain from the neighboring occupied residence at 225 Champlain. The Western Clinton County Recreation Center sits just yards away from 229. Water damage appeared to impact at least the occupied neighboring home, as crews continued working the scene well after 8:00 PM.
The Pennsylvania State Police and a Fire Marshal have been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
