Wildcats Rally Behind Singles Sweep to Edge Williamsport, 3-2

WILLIAMSPORT – On Monday afternoon at Williamsport Area High School, the Central Mountain boys tennis team showed determination, clawing their way to a 3-2 win over the Millionaires behind a strong showing in singles play.

After falling behind in his opening set, Joey McCluskey found his rhythm and turned the match around on court one. McCluskey outlasted Joey Hillman in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Wildcats on the board.

Tim Brinker added another point at No. 2 singles, grinding out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Spencer Kaar in a back-and-forth contest.

At third singles, Wesley Cowart kept the momentum rolling. Cowart played with confidence and consistency, taking down Howard Chen 6-2, 6-4 to complete a clean sweep for Central Mountain in singles.

Despite dropping both doubles matches in narrow fashion, the early singles success proved enough to lift the Wildcats to victory. Brayden Spedding and Mitchell Borges fought hard at No. 1 doubles but came up just short in a 2-6, 6-7 loss to Guilhem Colin and Charles Plummer. Meanwhile, Ben Brinker and Owen Stringfellow pushed their match to the brink at No. 2 doubles before falling 5-7, 6-7 to Owen Trump and Wyatt Judge.

The Wildcats will next be in action on Wednesday hosting Milton before traveling to Jersey Shore on Thursday.
