LHU Men’s Basketball strong first half not enough at No. 10 Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team (5-7, 1-4 PSAC) closed its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East vs. West crossover schedule by visiting No. 10 Gannon (11-1, 5-0 PSAC) on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 3. The Bald Eagles gave nationally-ranked Gannon all it could handle in the first half, but the Knights pulled away for an 87-73 victory.

Keith Warren finished with a season-high 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arch. He also knocked down 7-of-8 free throw attempts.

Dyllon Scott finished with 14 points, five assists and four rebounds, while making all six of his shots at the foul line.

Dean Coleman-Newsome chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds, while Blake Deegan finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Lock Haven came out of the gates ready to go against the No. 10 ranked team in the country and top-rated offense in the PSAC and trailed by just three 44-41 heading into the break.

The Haven held Gannon to 37 percent (14-of-38) from the field and 26 percent (5-of-19) from behind the arch. On the offensive end, Lock Haven knocked down 43 percent (12-of-28) of its shots from the floor and 46 percent (5-of-11) of its shots from deep.

Gannon was able to overcome hot Bald Eagles shooting by forcing a half-high 15 turnovers.

Warren led all scorers with 14 points in the first half, after knocking down a pair of three pointers and going 6-of-6 at the charity stripe.

However, the turnover bug continued to plague The Haven in the second half, as Gannon outscored the Bald Eagles 43-32 over the final 20 minutes to pull away for the victory.

The Knights forced a game-high 29 turnovers, which led to 32 points.
