LHU’s Ryan Miller breaks 200-meter school record at the Jim Taylor Invitational

SELINSGROVE – The Lock Haven men’s track and field team returned to action for week two of its outdoor season by competing in the two-day Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University on Friday and Saturday.

The Jim Taylor Invitational took place on the Amos Alonzo Stagg Field at Doug Arthur Stadium.

Friday Results

Two field events took place on Friday night, March 28.

Leading the way for The Haven was Eric Zalar, who threw a Pennsylvania State Athlete Conference (PSAC) distance of 183-10 in the hammer throw for a first-place finish. He also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-8.

Nathan Fetchkan placed in the top-ten in the hammer throw and the shot put. He threw for a PSAC distance of 156-03 in the hammer throw and a throw of 42-11.50 in the shot put.

Colton Myers joined his fellow Bald Eagle in the top-10 of the hammer throw, throwing for a distance of 144-04.

Saturday Results

Day two of the meet was dominated by the Bald Eagles, led by standout athlete Ryan Miller, who broke the program record set back in 2018 by Brian Zimmerman in the 200-meter dash with a PSAC time of 21.32. Miller also bested the field in the 400-meter race with a PSAC time of 47.95.

Miller was joined by Brennan Miller, Matthew Muthler, and Matt Reinard to become champions in the Jim Taylor Memorial 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:13.78.

In the javelin throw, Peter Bellomo was in command, finishing first, where he threw for a PSAC distance and a NCAA Division II Provisional mark of 211-07.

Josiah Schans finished first in the field of 21 with a PSAC time of 14.41 in the 110-meter hurdles and Reinard hit a PSAC time of 15.16. Other sprinters, Muthler and Jorge Santana, cracked the top-10 with times of 15.35 and 16.07, respectively.

In the discus throw, Braedon Firanski joins the long list of PSAC qualifying marks with his throw of 156-01, while Zalar added another medal to his collection on the weekend with a throw of 141-09, finishing third.

Michael Lawrence hit a pair of PSAC marks first in the triple jump with a leap of 46-00.50, finishing second, and in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 10.89.

It was a close battle in the pole vault, but Nick Bellomo cleared the height of 14-01.25 on his first attempt, while his competition did not clear it until their second attempt, giving Bellomo the first-place finish.

A pair of Bald Eagles were medalists in the 1500-meter event, with Jakob Rager finishing second in 4:05.37 and Owen Hibell finishing third in 4:07.98.

Distance runner Kristian Mizdail finished third in the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:53.38.

Rounding out the medalists in this sensational event for the Bald Eagles was the squad of Dylan Cassetori, Lawrence, B. Miller, and N. Bellomo, finishing third with a time of 42:00.00.

Next up for The Haven:

The Bald Eagles will travel to Williamsburg, Virginia on Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5 to compete in the three-day Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary.
