Streaking Montgomery races past Lady Phoenix
By Bees O’Brien
Montgomery- When Sugar Valley’s Olivia Clester crossed home plate in the top of the first inning, she gave her Lady Phoenix their first lead of 2025. It was as impressive as it was short lived.
Clester’s run came by way of Olivia Johnson advancing her on a ground out and a passed ball. Cheyenne Weaver grounded out to score her from third base and then the Mid Penn’s top squad took over.
Montgomery, who were fresh off of wins against Halifax and defending MPC champions Muncy this week racked up 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Red Raiders piled up 9 more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Montgomery rode the arm of Jenna Houseknecht in the circle. Houseknecht kept Sugar Valley hitless through three quick innings of work. Montgomery pounded out 12 hits in just two at bats, took advantage of 4 Lady Phoenix errors and 10 free passes.
Sugar Valley (0-2, 0-2) will next be in action on Monday with a road trip to 1-1 East Juniata.
