LADY WILDCATS TEN RUN RULE HOLLIDAYSBURG

By Joe Walker

MILL HALL – It was the second straight game the Lady Wildcats of Central Mountain found themselves behind halfway through the game, but this time no extra innings were needed, as they exploded for 11 unanswered runs to come away with a 12-2 ten-run rule win over visiting Hollidaysburg Friday afternoon.

The Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on just one hit, that lone hit was a 2-RBI double from Aubrey Miller to end the game in the bottom of the sixth inning due to the ten run rule. Millers’ double was her fourth hit of the game to go with her five RBIs to lead the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats scored first with a solo run in the bottom of the second, as Josie Shultz leadoff with a triple and then scored on an RBI infield ground out by Miller. The Lady Tigers took the lead in the top of the third with two runs on three singles by Maggie Hicks, Mikayla Vincent and Lexi Peacock.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth innings, the Lady Wildcats tallied three runs on a leadoff solo home run by Cora Myers and then they got a single by Mallory Wunder, a double by Miller and a single by Ava Doyle and the home team led 4-2.

The Lady Wildcats added four runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Aubrey Eiler started off the inning with a solo home run. Katelyn Bowman reached on an error and that was followed by a single from Wunder, a double from Miller and a triple by Camdyn Weaver.

Josie Shultz went the distance on the mound for the Lady Wildcats, as she held the Lady Tigers to six hits, while striking out 10 and walking just one batter. Mikayla Vincent took the loss with Melissa Snyder coming on in relief, as they surrendered 11 hits, striking out just two batters and walking three.

“We have a pair of good lefty pitchers and today Josie did a nice job with her off-speed pitches and kept their hitters off balance. We also did a good job at the plate and putting the ball into play, as I feel we have a balanced and solid hitting line-up and today everybody contributed” commented a very pleased head coach Taylor Thompson after the win.

“I always say that this group of girls are very versatile both defensively and offensively, we have right and left handed balance both ways. We had practice yesterday and we were playing three lefthanders in the outfield, you don’t see that too much anymore. But I feel that versatility from both sides give us a lot of options,” added coach Thompson.

The Lady Wildcats, now 2-0, will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1st, when they travel to Williamsport and take on the Lady Millionaires.
