Falls and Wagner Win Titles in Girls Classic
By Joe Walker
WILLIAMSPORT – Austynn Falls and Kendall Wagner both came into the Williamsport Girls Classic Tournament as top seeds for the Central Mountain Lady Wildcats and both came away as champions at their weights. The two helped the Lady Wildcats finish in seventh place of the 21-team tournament.
Falls was the top seed at 142 pounds and recorded two falls to get into the championship finals, where she pinned Alyssa Posey (15-11) of Benton in one minute of their championship match. With the 3-0 record and three falls recorded, the Lady Wildcat sophomore is now 25-2 on the season with 17 falls.
Wagner was top seeded at 170 pounds and she also went 2-0 with 2 falls to get into the championship bout, where she pinned Abigail Wagner (22-8) of Athens in 1:45 of the first period. The title improved the Bucktail juniors’ season record to 21-5 with 18 falls on the season.
Lady Wildcat Ashlyn Miller was top seeded at 235 pounds, but suffered an injury in her semifinal bout and was forced to default 47 seconds into her bout with Jatiah Peterkin (14-11) of Hughesville. Miller then had to medical forfeit the remainder of the tournament and finished in sixth place. Miller is now 20-4 on the season and since the tournament ruled her two losses medical forfeits, they do not count against her record.
Lady Wildcat Jacey Tripp (now 5-6) took a fourth place finish at 235 pounds, as she posted a 2-2 mark in the tournament. Tripp was pinned by third seeded Leah Nason (13-9) of Athens in 2:13 of their quarterfinal round bout, but bounced back with a fall over Payton Pepperman (6-13) in 53 seconds of the first period of their consolation quarterfinal round bout.
Tripp was then slated to meet teammate Miller in the consolation semifinals, but Miller had to medical forfeit allowing Tripp to move into the 3rd place match. In the consolation final, Tripp was again pinned by Nason in 2:04 and she settled for the fourth place finish.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez (12-14) posted a 2-2 record at 112 pounds, she won by a fall in the opening round, but then fell by fall to second seeded Ariahna Moore (22-7) of Hughesville in the quarterfinals. She bounced back with a fall in the consolations, but then was pinned in 36 seconds by third seeded McKenna Sones (12-9) of Hughesville in the consolation quarterfinals, one win short of placing.
Freshman Mallory Wunder (6-17) lost her opening round bout, but bounced back to pin Chaylin Roloson of Sayre in 1:40 of their consolation bout. Wunder then dropped a close 11-9 decision to Megan Robbins of Wellsboro in her second consolation bout to finish 1-2 in the tournament.
Hughesville captured the team title with 205 points, while Athens was second with 148 points and Shikellamy finished third with 138 points. The host Williamsport was fourth with 109.5 points, while Mifflinburg rounded out the top five with 90 points. The Lady Wildcats were seventh with 69.5 points.
