Stormy weather …

As we drove into North Bend Monday evening, the sky was stormy, there was some light rain and a fair amount of lightening. It was in fact a far cry from the terrifying hail storm we had just come through as we left Lock Haven and headed toward Renovo. The quarter size and half dollar size pieces of hail that battered our vehicle were not the largest I’ve ever heard about, but it certainly was the largest I’ve ever seen or been out in. I’m wondering what the eye of a storm is like, because the storm we drove into was like a heavy dark cloud with visibility being only a few feet ahead of us. The sky looked ominous while we were in Mill Hall in the vicinity of Kmart and Wal-Mart. It was but five minutes or so until we were heading west on Route 120. Maybe ten minutes until the storm hit. The hail banged against our vehicle, and for quite a distance, the roadway was covered with so much hail it looked as if it had snowed. But ride over it was bumpy enough to make it clear it was not snow. The lightening was quite sharp too, adding a bit more concern. But as we neared Hyner and the Renovo area it was brighter and while the roadway was wet, it appeared that the hail Renovo area had Renovo had thunder and lightning but not hail.

A lottery ticket for Renovo …

Through the years I’ve heard Renovo round table knights say that if they ever win the lottery they will use the money to rehab buildings and the town to resemble the Renovo they knew during their childhood and early adult years. It occurs to me that often groups of people pool their dollars and buy large numbers of lottery tickets at a time. So I’m thinking maybe it would be an idea for a Renovo group of people to take lottery chances. If the tickets they purchase win, the money could help finance a rehab project. Not a clue, if it would work, it’s just a thought that crossed my mind.

Dollar General award …

Rumor has it, not a clue it it’s true, but we’re hearing that the Dollar General store has won the Chairman’s Circle Award , a high honor among the DG retail stores. The Renovo store was chosen for the award from a pool of 187 other stores. So, Congratulations Sara Jones and all the Dollar General employees.

Roots in Renovo …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but I’ve heard somewhere that nearly everyone has a connection to Renovo. It just might be, because I’ve heard many instances of meetings with people with Renovo ties all around the country. Just last week, Renovo Mason John Stewart said Right Worshipful Grand Master Robert J. “Mac” Bateman who visited the Renovo Masonic Lodge recently has family roots in Renovo. Mac’s mom is Elwood Shearer’s sister, is related to Tom Shearer of Westport and is a cousin to Johnny Shearer.

Health Week entertainment …

Bud & The Dynamics will be entertaining at Bucktail Medical Center on May 15 at 1:30 p.m. The entertainment is during the medical center’s week long observance of Health Week. Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true that Bucktail residents love Bud and the Dynamics and their music. The band played for the dances many of the residents used to attend in their younger days, and may have played for some of their weddings or anniversary parties. The band is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Free Movie at Rec. Center …

RENOVO – The Advocates for a Drug Free Tomorrow was to be in Renovo Wednesday night for the free showing of the award winning film, “Anonymous People” at 6 p.m. at Western Clinton County Recreation center, 222 St. Claire Ave. The movie was open to the public. After the movie a panel discussion was to be held on the drug problems we face as a community. A panel featuring Judge Michael Salisbury, Deputy Chief Probation/Parole Officer Ed Hosler, Joel Long and others were to be present to field questions. The Advocates are a group of individuals, agency representatives, government leaders, social workers, religious leaders and people in recovery. They held major public events last year, creating some momentum. They are hoping to build on that energy this year.
