Pentz’s triple-double lifts Bucktail to road win, Sullivan battle looms
By Bees O’Brien
Millville- Bucktail’s Brody Pentz put forth a dominant overall performance on Tuesday night in Millville. The Bucktail senior collected his first triple-double of the season by scoring 16 points, collected 10 rebounds and dished out a season-high 10 assists. Aidan Ditty’s 10 points and 10 rebounds, combined with 20 points from Gary Whipp and Talan Ditty’s 9 points and 10 rebounds all combined to help the Bucks down playoff contenders Millville 67-53.
The Bucks set the pace early by grabbing a 20-10 lead over the host Quakers after one quarter of play. Millville came back strong and used a 16-15 second quarter advantage, but a strong 24-7 third quarter from the Bucks locked up Bucktail’s 5th win of the season.
Millville’s 20-8 fourth quarter run was too little, too late as the Bucks had already locked the critical District IV 1A victory up.
On Friday in LaPorte, Bucktail and Sullivan County are set to meet each other in a clash between the past two District IV 1A champions. This game will more than likely give both squads an idea as to where they will stand in next month’s District Tournament. Sullivan County (7-6) currently hold down second place in the current district standings, with the Bucks (5-6) holding the third place spot. NP-Liberty (6-5) is in first place.
It will be a tough two day span for Bucktail this weekend. Following their road trip on Friday to Sullivan County, the Bucks will host 3A powerhouses Troy on Saturday. The Trojans are currently 9-1, with their lone loss coming to 6A Erie back in December. Last season the Trojans went 26-2 and qualified for the 3A state playoffs before being eliminated by Trinity in the opening round.
