Obituary -John Michael Connolly Jr.
Brother, Friend, and Eagle Scout John Michael Connolly Jr. of Renovo passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2025. He was born on April 7, 1961 to John “Irish” Connolly and Janice (Johnson) Connolly who, along with his sister Beth, preceded him in death. John is survived by two sisters, two brothers, and a bother-in-law: Becky (Eric) Sherman of Albion, Betsy (Lenny) Stone of Fairless Hills, Jim Connolly of Emporium, Tim Connolly of Williamsport, and Richard Lupro of Hanover. In addition, John is also survived by his many nieces and nephews who were a joy in his life.
John impacted each person he met. From his family and friends to his Naval service and dedication to the Boy Scouts of America – John was a friend to all. Graduating from Bucktail Area High School in 1980, John joined the Navy serving aboard AD-37 Samuel Gompers. After active duty, John was a reservist and began work on a forestry degree in Williamsport. John worked at Camp Karoondinha BSA as the Aquatics Director for many years. He moved to Lancaster PA to be close to his sister Beth near the end of her life. Staying in Lancaster, John worked as an assistant receiving manager for K-Mart. He returned to Renovo to attend to his mother up to her death in 2017.
Always walking to his destination, John was often seen with his trusty Walk-Man and “tunes”. When not listening to music, John was watching the latest movie or rooting for his beloved Reds, Vikings, or Fighting Irish. His encyclopedic knowledge of music, movies, and sports was astounding. However, this knowledge paled in comparison to his dedication to family and friends.
Always ready to help and to tell you a story, our hearts are heavy with the loss of our brother and friend. We are sustained with the knowledge that his kindness and love for all of us will endure.
A memorial service is being planned and will be announced.
Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, North Bend.
