Obituary – Ronald Frederick Laird
Ronald Frederick Laird, 89, of Castanea, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at his home.
Born October 29, 1935 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Frederick Andrew and Leona Marie Croll Laird.
Ron was a 1953 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
From 1954 to 1957, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed in Mansun and Inchon, Korea and Yokosuka, Japan, before returning to Quantico, VA.
Following his Honorable Discharge from the military, Ron obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Lock Haven University and his Master’s degree in Mathematics from Cornell University.
He had a true love for teaching and taught high school mathematics and chemistry at Bald Eagle Area and Bald Eagle Nittany for many years before his retirement in 1993.
Ron coached high school golf during his teaching years and was a former member of Belles Springs Golf Course. He was also a member of the Lock Haven Elks and American Legion.
He enjoyed traveling with his USMC buddies after they reunited with each other 40 years after serving together.
Ron is survived by his wife, Cindy Dolan of Castanea.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of his family.
