Obituary – Donald Ernest Leitzell
Donald Ernest Leitzell went home to be with his Lord and Savior early in the morning on Sunday, December 29th, 2024. Born on January 15th, 1949, to Ernest Leitzell and Inez (Taylor) Leitzell in Williamsport, he lived an abundantly fruitful life. He was a father, husband, friend, and mentor to so many. He passed away at age 75 peacefully at his farmhouse, in his favorite chair after enjoying a wonderful Christmas season. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Ernest and Inez, as well as his eldest son, Christopher Leitzell. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Heidi (Braune) Leitzell; his elder brother, Terry Leitzell (Lucy); sons: Matthew Leitzell, Stuart Leitzell (Brigitt), and Taylor Leitzell; grandchildren: Ryleigh Leitzell, Reagan Leitzell, Maddox Leitzell, and Cooper Leitzell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don spent his youth in Williamsport playing Little League, football, and helping his parents with their grocery store. He graduated from Williamsport High School, going on to earn his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in economics from Penn State University while working in the Contract Negotiations Office. As his interest and expertise in economics grew, he left the university to enter the insurance and investment field in the early 1980’s. In 1987, he and three partners started Diversified Asset Planners, Inc. Don remained active with DAP until his passing. Building the firm and the people within it was a major passion in his life. His son Christopher served DAP for 27 years until his passing, and his son Taylor currently serves DAP as the Vice-President.
The greatest joy in Don’s life was being a father, and he was blessed with four sons throughout his life. He was also blessed by his marriage to Heidi. Together they built the life they dreamed of on their farm in Beech Creek. Don also had a passion for baseball (the Yankees in particular), classic cars, and serving his church. He built numerous relationships through these passions and his business and will be missed greatly. Don’s final days were full of joy during the Christmas season; he attended Christmas Eve service at Blanchard Church of Christ, saw his son Taylor ask his now fiancée, Abigail, for her hand in marriage on Christmas Day, spent time with his grandchildren Ryleigh, Reagan, and Maddox, and enjoyed peaceful evenings by the fire with his wife, Heidi, whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Friday, January 3rd as well as 10 – 11 AM on Saturday, January 4th. Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 4th. All visitation and services will be held at Blanchard Church of Christ, 161 Beach St, Blanchard, PA 16826.
