Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
The Christmas Story, the real story of Christmas is found in the Bible. Joseph and Mary, left the city of Nazareth to go to Bethlehem.
It was there where Mary brought forth her firstborn son. Because there was no room for them to stay in the inn, the baby was born in a stable (Luke 2:7)
The question is asked: “Have you any room for Jesus, He who bore your load of sin? As He knocks and asks admission, Sinner, will you let Him in?”
We can thank God that there is no one too bad or too low-down to open the door and receive Jesus as their Savior. Make room for Jesus in your heart .
There once a poor drunkard who awoke one morning in a strange place. Feeling something next to him that was warm and soft, it finally dawned on him that he was in a stable close beside a cow.
He began to laugh as he thought about getting something to eat for breakfast. Was there anyone who might help him with a meal? He thought. “No,” he said to himself, “they would say I have fallen too low.”
Just then he heard the bells ringing, and realized that it was Christmas Day. Trying to recall the story about the stable and the baby Jesus in the manger, he knew that he wasn’t the first one who slept in a stable.
Right there the poor outcast knelt and prayed the publican’s prayer, “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
