City Council Vacancy Interviews Postponed

LOCK HAVEN – Three city residents have come forward, willing to fill the vacancy on Lock Haven City Council, the replacement process now extending into May.

The vacancy occurred last month when council member Jonathon Bravard was selected by his fellow members as the city’s interim mayor.

The city is going through the process to select Bravard’s council replacement; the deadline to submit a letter of interest was last Wednesday and three did so; all three reside on Susquehanna Avenue.

City manager Rich Marcinkevage said Monday a third interested resident had submitted a letter, Democrat Matthew Rodgers. The other two came earlier from already announced municipal election council candidates. They are Republican Doug Byerly and Democrat Sara Stringfellow.

Council had planned to interview the three candidates following its Monday meeting this week but Marcinkevage said because one council member cannot be present, it was agreed to move back the interviews until after council’s May 4 meeting.

The person selected will fill Bravard’s unexpired council term through the end of this year. Bravard meanwhile remains on the 2015 ballot as a candidate for city council. Three current council members are on the ballot running for mayor, Democrats Bill Baney and Steve Stevenson and Republican Rick Conklin.
