Late goal lifts LHU Women’s Soccer to victory in season finale
LOCK HAVEN – Eva Stoessel scored from long range late in the match and the goal lifted the Lock Haven women’s soccer team to a hard-fought 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East victory over visiting Millersville (6-6-5, 5-6-5 PSAC East) Saturday night.
Stoessel drilled home a shot in the 85th minute from 28 yards out and it proved the difference maker in the contest.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Megan Miller finished with four saves in the shutout, The Haven’s second straight shutout.
Janessa Swartz, Aleigha Rieppel, Emily Reeve and Ellie Gerhart led an organized defense for the Bald Eagles.
Bryn Constanzer nearly broke open the scoreless match late as she her shot in the 77th minute forced a save by the Millersville goalkeeper. Moments later Evelyn Ciaccia’s near-post shot forced another save from MU keeper Leah Schlimme.
The pressure paid off in the final minutes of the game as Stoessel collected a pass from Ciaccia, before blasting the ball home from long distance.
Prior to tonight’s match, the Bald Eagles honored the Lock Haven seniors one last time.
The 2024 season marked the first for head coach Jesse Urquhart and with tonight’s result in hand, The Haven finished the season on a two-match unbeaten streak. Overall, Lock Haven was 3-11-4 (3-11-2 PSAC East) on the season.
