CROSS FORK – Fire Chief of Kettle Creek Hose Company, Barry Fritzinger, presented an award to Nate Dingman, for his heroic actions at an accident on Kettle Creek. Also receiving an award was Nate’s grandmother, Nancy Dingman, for her dedication to the fire company and ambulance association.

On a very cold, dark and dreary middle of the night on New Years’ Eve, a truck was driven into Kettle Creek. At the same time, a young fire fighter, a member of Kettle Creek Hose Co. and Ambulance Association was driving his vehicle to test a new part he had installed. Nathanial Dingman works away from home and due to traveling and odd working hours, he was up at this time working on his vehicle.

As he was driving along, he noticed headlights shining out of the water on Kettle Creek near Trout Run Road. He followed the direction of the lights and found a truck in the water. A cold and wet individual had crawled out of the vehicle to the banks of Kettle Creek. Nate immediately radioed for help. He used his EMT and Fire Rescue training to do what was needed until more help arrived.

At an annual Fire Company banquet, Fire Chief Barry Fritzinger presented an award for these heroic acts to Nate’s “Pap,” Wil Dingman, as Nate was working and could not attend. Wil Dingman was also on the scene of the accident providing assistance. Many of the fire companies around the area of Kettle Creek were at the banquet to support the efforts of community volunteers. Many of them had responded to the accident as well.

Also at the banquet, an award was given to Nancy Dingman for her dedicated service to Kettle Creek Hose Company and Kettle Creek Ambulance Association. Nancy is the Grandmother of Nate Dingman. Nancy has trained numerous volunteers in the Kettle Creek, Renovo and Coudersport areas. She is a certified trainer for EMT and First Responder training. Nancy was given a standing ovation.

Kettle Creek Hose Company and Kettle Creek Ambulance Association are so fortunate to have volunteers like Nate, Nancy and Wil who give of themselves to help keep our community safe.
