Dominion Plans Leidy South Project
by Barbara Mastriania
RENOVO – Representatives from Dominion Transmission, Inc. (DTI) were at Clinton County Recreation Center last week to meet with DTI neighbors and Western Clinton County residents.
Frank J. Mack, Manager, Dominion Transmission Communications, said the purpose of the meeting was to answer questions and concerns regarding proposed expansion of the Finnefrock station.
The Finnefrock station currently has several compressors in operation. Adding more will allow DTI to move more natural gas to help meet increasing demand for natural gas in the Mid-Atlantic region. Mack said Dominion plans to file a plan for the Leidy South Project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in May, hoping to have approval in March 2016. Construction would begin in May 2016 and be in service October 2017.
He said benefits for the area would include property tax revenue and during construction employment opportunity and the need for local services including food and lodging.
According to Dominion’s information on the internet the project will improve regional energy security by providing gas supply to existing and new electric power generation facilities. Access to new natural gas supply is critical to offsetting coal-fired, electricity-generating plant retirements projected to take place across the country over the next few years.
