LHU Men’s Soccer battles Chestnut Hill to 1-1 tie in Season Opener

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven men’s soccer team opened the 2024 season at home on Thursday afternoon and battled Chestnut Hill to a hard-fought 1-1 tie in a non-conference game at Hubert Jack Stadium.

With the tie, both schools move to 0-0-1 on the young season.

Both teams came out of the gate with great intensity which resulted in a heated first-half that featured four yellow cards.

Lock Haven dominated possession in the first half and fired off five shots on goal, but the Chestu

In the second half, The Haven kept the pressure on offense, but it was Chestnut Hill who made the most of their chances and the Griffins took a 1-0 lead at the 52:47 mark.

However, Lock Haven broke through in the 69th minute when Matt Laudenslager buried the equalizer off a perfectly executed corner kick. Connor Swope sent the ball into the box, allowing Carter Rosno to find the cutting Laudenslager.

The Bald Eagles outshot the Griffins by 11 in the second half, but couldn’t find the back of the net the rest of the way, securing the tie.

Duc Do picked up where he left off from last fall and was dominant in the midfield, Connor Swope and Kade Black finished with a game-high three shots each. Laudenslager scored, while Rosno and Swope notched assists.

Brady Freiwald finished with two saves to earn the tie in net for Lock Haven.

NEXT UP

The Bald Eagles remain home and will host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 8).
