LHU Women’s Soccer opens Jesse Urquhart era with 1-1 tie vs. Cal U

LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven women’s soccer team ushered in a new era under first-year head coach Jesse Urquhart, as the Bald Eagles hosted California (Pa.) for its home opener on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 5) at Hubert Jack Stadium. The season opener ended in a hard-fought 1-1 tie.

Jesse Urquhart was hired as the new Lock Haven women’s soccer head coach on May 23, 2024.

With the tie, Lock Haven and Cal move to 0-0-1 on the season.

Lock Haven kicked off the scoring in the 17th minute of action when Eva Stoessel found the back of the net off a perfect lead pass from Evelyn Ciaccia.

The Haven held the lead for the ensuing 20 minutes, but the Vulcans connected on the equalizer to knot the score at 1-1.

In the second half, neither defense allowed a score, ending the season opener in a tie.

Lock Haven dominated possession and led in shots, 10-4.

In net for the Bald Eagles, Megan Miller played the full 90 minutes and made one save.

The Bald Eagles hit the road for the first time this season and will visit Seton Hill for a non-conference match on Sunday (Sept. 8), beginning at 1 p.m.
