NORTH BEND – Eric Ditty presented Dick Richardson with a handmade foot rest on Saturday, March 21. Dick, who lives in North Bend is an eight year veteran of the US Navy serving from 1958 to 1966. Dick is very active in The Renovo American Legion, He always drove Mack trucks and loved hunting. Dick will be turning 75 on March 30.
Eric made the table for Dick because he said he has always done a lot for people over the years and because he needed a foot rest. Eric also wanted to thank him for the years he served our country.
Eric wanted to make the table to reflect on Dick’s life. The table is made out of black walnut and the legs are black iron pipe. A US Navy emblem and US Veteran’s emblem made out of bronze are inlayed on the top along with four 300 Winchester magnum casings for each leg. Each casing is surrounded by four bolts holding the legs on. The Mack truck emblem and bull dog came off an old Mack truck that has been sitting in a farmer’s field for a long time. The table is covered in two part epoxy liquid glass giving it a smooth finish. A few years ago, Eric also gave Dick a handmade cane that his son James makes for veterans.
