Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Gospel of John describes the Lord Jesus as the Word. He was in the beginning with God, and he is God. (1:1) He was the maker of all things. Nothing was made without him in the beginning, according to verse three.

He came into the world, the World that was made by him, and the world did not know him. (V.10) How quickly the world forgets God’s warning: “Beware that thou forget not the Lord.”

There is a message to young people in the Bible. It is to:

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

A young man confessed to his pastor, “Sometimes I think I am not a Christian, I don’t seem to have the same interest that I had when I joined the church, It isn’t easy for me to remember God.”

The minister reminded him of the time when his father was away from home for an extended time. “Was it hard for remember him?” he asked.

“Not a bit,” he answered. “We had letters from him and we kept thinking about him and talking about him. We were looking forward to the time when he would be home.”

Then the pastor tried to get him to think of what would have happened if there were no letters sent and no conversations about his father during that time. “That would have made a difference,” he realized. “A fellow needs all the reminders of God he can get in a world like this.”
