Obituary – Gary Lynn Rupert Sr.

Gary Lynn Rupert Sr., 80, of Howard (Snydertown), passed away on August 24, 2024 at Mount Nittany Hospital after a long and fulfilling life.

Gary was born in Lock Haven on March 23, 1944.  He was the son of Kenneth Rupert and Grace Rupert.

Gary graduated from Bald Eagle Nittany High School in 1962.  While in high school he was a member of the wrestling team.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, for 4 years. He was in the Strategic Air Command and served 18 months in Guam and Vietnam.

In 1964, Gary married Shirley Brungard in Mackeyville. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 30th. 

They had two children, Teri and Gary, Jr. and raised Alyssa Moore.

Gary retired from Corning Asahi in 1997.

Gary was a long-time active member of the Lamar United Methodist Church and served in various offices and ways.  He loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Grace Rupert and his sister Darla Powers.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Teri Kostka (Jim) of Anchorage; and his son, Gary Rupert, Jr (Rose) of Snydertown. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Maxwell Derenzis,  Alyssa Moore, Jessica Torrey (Brennan), Carolyn Kostka; and four great-grandchildren, Parker DeRenzis, Bennett Jackson, Braydon Torrey, and Colter Torrey.

A celebration of life with full military honors will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mackeyville Road, Mill Hall, PA at 1 P.M. on Sat., August 31, 2024, under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc.

In place of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gary’s name to Lamar United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 416, Lamar, PA 16848.
