Obituary – Charles C. Royer
Charles C. Royer, known affectionately as “Chick”, passed away on July 12, 2024, in his native Pennsylvania. Born on November 3, 1929, in Clintondale, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Archey (Royer), and Glenn H. Royer. Charles was a lifelong resident of Central Pennsylvania.
Charles graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1947. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952 on the ships USS Catamount (LSD 17) and USS Midway (CVB 41) as a Radarman. His later years were filled with telling stories of port calls abroad and the maintenance of new radar systems on one of the largest ships in the world. He was extremely proud of his Naval Service and inspired two of his grandsons to serve in the same branch of the military.
Following his naval service, Charles worked and dedicated over 30 years to Cox Cable as a regional manager before retiring in his Swissdale home.
In May 1960, Charles married his beloved wife, Vivian Royer (Probst), and together, they raised two children: Beth (Joseph) Laughlin, and Glenn Royer. Charles was a devoted husband and father, and his family was the cornerstone of his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Charles taught his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish and would often be found on walks across his mountain property in northern Pennsylvania. A lover of animals, Charles found comfort in the black bears and white tail deer that would visit his property and always kept his bird feeder full. An avid news reader, Charles was always up to date on the latest investment and political news, and, of course, the Steelers.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Vivian, his son Glenn and his brothers, Archey and Dean. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children, his five grandchildren: Charles, David, Katherine, Tallon, and Jennifer and an ever-growing number of great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to honor Charles’ life will be held on October 4, 2024 at 11am at Swissdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in his name can be made to the National Park Foundation.
Charles C. Royer will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend. His stories, wisdom, laugh and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
