Downtown Rotary Welcomes New Member, Scholarship Winners
LOCK HAVEN — The Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven had a lot to celebrate Tuesday, July 16. Nate Akeley became the club’s newest member that evening.
He recently graduated from Central Mountain High School where he had been class president for three years and a member of Interact (high school Rotary). An honor roll student, Nate has already completed several college courses and will major in electrical engineering at Penn State this fall.
The club also met two of its three scholarship winners from CMHS.
Sofia Dressler received the club’s Betty Schantz Memorial Scholarship of $2,000. She was president of Interact, received a dozen senior awards, and placed first in the country in technical math at the recent National Leadership and Skills Conference. She will attend Notre Dame University with a double major in engineering and math.
Brooklyn Bechdel received the club’s Roberta Way Memorial Scholarship of $1,500. She told the club she will major in early childhood education at Commonwealth University — Lock Haven.
The club’s Eleanor Kodish Memorial Scholarship of $2,000 went to Chloe Condo who plans to pursue a degree in elementary education at CU — Mansfield, Mrs. Kodish’s alma mater.
