Go Joe 27 “Inflate and Donate” rolls out of Lock Haven

WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – The air was filled with electricity this morning as people from Lock Haven and the surrounding areas descended on the Lockport Boat Launch in Woodward Township.
Newswatch 16/WNEP-16 news personality and meteorologist Joe Snedeker has come and gone cycling his way for a cause with Go Joe 27 “Inflate and Donate” as he journeys throughout the Newswatch 16 viewing area this week raising funds for St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton.
Joining Joe on his bike ride across the northern tier from the comfort of the broadcast vehicles was fellow broadcast journalist Chelsea Strub and and the president of St. Joseph’s Center Sister Mary Alice.
“Our goal is to raise $400,000 along the way, coupled with a two-night telethon,” Sister Mary Alice told The Record. “The center originally assisted pregnant women and the homeless since we opened our doors in the late 1800s and we’ve since added helping to care for people with disabilities either around-the-clock or outpatient.”
People from all over Clinton County came out to show their support for Go Joe 27 and St. Joseph’s Center, even those from up the road in the western end of the county.
“This was a blast,” said Renovo resident Tracy Shady, who joined in with Farwell resident Margaret Riggle, dressed as inflatable sharks touting the signs “we swam all the way from Renovo” this morning at the Lockport Boat Launch.
The early morning hours did not keep everyone away as a crowd of at least five dozen people were there as early as 4 a.m. Monday morning, with that number increasing throughout the early daylight hours.
“It’s Joe time,” Avenue Coffee Manager Jared Conti blurted out as he was setting up their new coffee trailer for the morning rush. A line a dozen people deep formed there only after being open for 15 minutes.
“I went through four gallons of hot coffee, and numerous latte’s and other drinks,” Conti said.
JB’s Festie Foods was also on hand with a special “Pierogi Joe” egg roll for the occasion. He was later interviewed by Snedeker on the air about his creation which had all the earmarks of a great pierogi.
Later this morning, Snedeker and the team are expected to reach Avis, Jersey Shore, Linden, Williamsport, and then Hughsville, Muncy, Allenwood, Watsontown, and Milton by this evening.
In all, the kick off to Joe’s ride across northern PA was a complete success and will culminate in his arrival at Marywood University in Scranton on Friday evening.
